White backlash and the politics of multiculturalism

摘要: The murder of Stephen Lawrence led to the widest review institutional racism seen in UK. Sections white working-class communities south London near scene murder, however, displayed deep hostility equalities and multiculturalist practice local state other agencies. Drawing on extensive ethnographic research, this book relates these phenomena 'backlash' multiculturalism evident during 1990s USA, Australia, Canada, UK European countries. It examines within unfolding social political responses race USA from 1960s present context changes class national agendas. This is unique linking a detailed study community at time its critical importance debates over multiculturalism, historically wider international economic trends.
