摘要: Over the past years, modular multilevel converters (MMC) have been widely researched as a preferred option among voltage source for HVDC transmission system. The converter presents modularity to generate high number of output levels by simple series connection modules, resulting in higher reliability and easy failure management/maintenance. Synthesis near sinusoidal waveforms operation requires pulse-width modulation at relatively lower switching frequencies, reduced losses. In this paper, asymmetrical submodules MMC based system investigated. Use with different capacitor voltages results lesser semiconductor switches same levels, thus reducing overall size operating principle using carrier schemes is discussed detail. Modified balancing algorithms on well known sorting algorithm PI controller investigated their feasibility asymmetrical-MMC operation. Simulations preliminary experimental are presented validate proposed
