摘要: Economic incentives exist for partitioning both current and stored Hanford Site radioactive wastes into high-level waste, transuranic (TRU) low-level waste fractions. The present large volume of TRU could be made much smaller by separating radionuclides from the inert (non-radioactive) components waste. Theoretically, reduced to only a few percent volume. remaining decontaminated, lowlevel then disposed relatively inexpensively mixing it with cement grout disposing mixture in shallow, underground vaults. vitrification transporting vitrified an repository. Recovery some more valuable actinides pure form commercial use may also incentive partitioning.
