Influence of composition and crystal structure on the fracture toughness of NbCo2 Laves phase studied by micro-cantilever bending tests

摘要: Abstract Cubic and hexagonal NbCo2 Laves phases are known to have composition dependent hardness yield strength. However, it is unknown whether this dependence also reflected in their fracture toughness values. In order elucidate the behavior, single-crystalline micro-cantilevers of cubic having different compositions were fabricated diffusion layers grown by couple technique. Micro-cantilever bending tests performed study composition- crystal-structure-dependence toughness. To exclude influence micro-cantilever geometry, pentagonal rectangular beams tested found result same value. The present results reveal that neither a change crystal structure nor chemical has significant on phase.
