摘要: Bakeapple, or cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus L.; Rosaceae) is a circumpolar perennial with orange aggregate fruits, which has been vital food resource for many northern peoples including those of the Subarctic and Arctic areas North America. This study documented importance local knowledge bakeapple in predominantly Metis community Charlottetown, Labrador. The cultural evidenced by social customs surrounding its picking, prevalence people’s homes at events, formal informal economic exchange, within outside community. ecological that residents Charlottetown possessed also illustrates importance. Local interviewees included different habitat types associated various densities fruit sizes, development/phenology (e.g., “turned in” stage) variations berry (e.g. color size). Bakeapple remains culturally important species high profile although lack interest picking younger people may affect future use.
