摘要: Undernutrition and food insecurity are critical problems among under-five children in many developing countries. This study was carried out for eight months between 2009 2011. It combined quantitative data (N=156) qualitative to explore nutritional status Jibondo Chole villages within Mafia Island Marine Park Tanzania. Weight-for-age analysis performed according World Health Organization standards determine the proportion of underweight samples. The prevalence high both villages, village it even higher (69%) than (40%). Interviewees attributed exceptionally a substantial reduction breast-feeding frequency. because mothers resumed seaweed farming octopus fishing soon after delivery. Consequently, infants were fed poor-quality substitute foods at tender age. Decreased family income, insecurity, changes gender roles increased responsibilities women also perceived be key underlying contributing levels undernutrition areas. If healthy generations sustainable social-ecological systems achieved future, policies that review restrictions, improve fish trading, increase household security liberate mother’s time breastfeeding child-caring activities would essential address current under-fives.
