Current trends in urban heat island mitigation research: Observations based on a comprehensive research repository

摘要: Abstract Scientific research on the mitigation of urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon has been growing, reflecting a new awareness from scientists, planning authorities, and governmental bodies to effects design UHI summer intensity. This article aims at analysing current trends through comprehensive survey scientific articles published between years 2009–2013. The produced repository 411 papers identified 11 discrete measures that are commonly studied today. In addition, geographical distribution its reliance different methodologies external funding was also reviewed. Analysis showed clear inclination researchers towards small set (shade trees, cool building envelopes, ground vegetation, green roofs). Research is mainly conducted in regions subtropical climate large developed areas East Asia, North America, European part Mediterranean Sea. Studies comparing effect several less common than studies dedicated single measure, which may become beneficial for policy makers, who usually have decide type needed most urgent promotion.
