摘要: Following previous investigations on a fringing reef in the Red Sea near Aqaba (Mergner & Schuhmacher, 1974; Mergner Svoboda, 1977) this paper presents quantitative analysis of faunal and floral stock one selected test areas (5×5 m) located lagoon studied. During observation period 237 macrobenthic species 192 genera were found. Species numbers 22 (algae), 18 (cnidarians), (crustaceans), 113 (molluscs), 27 (echinoderms), 14 (fishes) 21 (smaller animal taxa including foraminiferans, sponges, turbellarians, polychetes ascidians). These numbers, though derived from small relatively monotonous area, exceed by far all data known comparable zones. The ecological conditions as well habitat preferences, times occurrence, seasonal abundances, diversities dominances inhabitants observed area are discussed. Comparisons population October, 1975 March, 1976 indicate influence succession, abundance disappearance phytal environmental mobile fauna, for example molluscs, echinoderms fishes. increase some its species, especially juvenile individuals, is remarkable. Within same colonies xeniids stony coralStylophora pistillata undergo similar fluctuations; eliminated grazers or other, unknown circumstances, replaced new settlers. Altogether, algal can be interpreted climax community; impressive density apparently result high number various microhabitats. Each these niches provides manyfold living spaces specific communities with different adaptive strategies. highest plus diversity indices rank mostly among groups.
