摘要: Previous studies of Drosophila flight muscle neuromuscular synapses have revealed their tripartite architecture and established an attractive experimental model for genetic analysis glial function in synaptic transmission. Here we extend these findings by defining a new cell type, designated peripheral perisynaptic glia (PPG), which resides the periphery interacts specifically with fine motor axon branches forming synapses. Identification specific labeling PPG was achieved through type-specific RNAi-mediated knockdown (KD) marker, Glutamine Synthetase 2 (GS2). In addition, comparison among different synapse models from adult larval developmental stages indicated presence on several types adult. contrast, appear to be absent body wall synapses, do not exhibit but rather are imbedded plasma membrane. Evolutionary conservation vertebrates suggests ancient conserved roles glia-synapse interactions
