Long-wavelength electromagnetic propagation in heterogeneous media

摘要: Existing effective-medium-type theories for the propagation of long-wavelength electromagnetic radiation in heterogeneous media are examined, and structural effects, neglected by such theories, introduced a multiple-scattering approach that yields an effective wave vector. Results presented through infinite periodic array small spheres immersed host different permittivity (or permeability). The procedure is generalized to aperiodic systems include lowest-order corrections small-sphere volume fill fraction $\ensuremath{\eta}$ (for arbitrary scattering strength) weak $\ensuremath{\eta}$). In all cases significant effects due structure-induced multipole fields seen occur.
