摘要: As part of a larger study, we investigated the feasibility using Internet research to capture demographic characteristics largely closeted sexual minority and report such in first national study transgender persons ever attempted United States. To achieve nonclinical sample, online convenience sampling was used. Of 1,373 surveys received, 1,229 (90%) were deemed complete from unique individuals self-identifying as transgender, 18 years or older, U.S. residents. Participation approximated that predicted by Census (2000). Comparison with census data identified sample younger, White (non-Hispanic), single, more educated but less household income, living smaller towns medium-sized cities, affiliated traditional Christian denominations. Demographic differed significantly both gender status. The challenge achieving demographically representative online, well implications for future policy, are discussed.
