It contains genera Burkholderia (the type genus), Chitinimonas, Cupriavidus, Lautropia, Limnobacter, Pandoraea, Paucimonas, Polynucleobacter, Ralstonia, Thermothrix, and Wautersia. The family is characterized by presence of ecologically extremely diverseorganisms trulyenvironmental saprophytic organisms, phytopathogens, opportunistic pathogens, as well primary pathogens for humans animals.
