摘要: This article evaluates state responses to environmental insecurity in the Niger Delta. It analyzes performance of OMPADEC and NDDC as most outstanding institutional a deepening crisis contradictions delta by federal government Nigeria. Its central finding is that, though these have moderated crisis, they remain inadequate ineffective, epitomized increasing degradation, excruciating poverty, rising tension ethnic militias, general underdevelopment. The inadequacy may not be unconnected with political influences, corruption, unrepresentativeness, other underlying structural problems that render them cosmetic. A developmental Nigerian autonomous productive, rather than rent-seeking, coupled good governance at all levels, required engage adequately. All should closely linked grassroots organizations, particularly community-development associations related rural-empowerment nongovernmental adequate frameworks for monitoring evaluation.
