摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter presents a brief description of the rationale underlying functional imaging techniques in experimental animals. It summarizes results selected mapping studies aimed at investigating brainstem nociceptive mechanisms, after stimulation craniofacial or somatic structures models chronic pain. Blood flow rates may be simultaneously determined different central nervous system (CNS) regions by autoradiographic techniques, which measure local tissue concentrations chemically inert, diffusible, and radioactive tracers. The quantitative for determining cerebral metabolic have been introduced, use radioactively labeled 2-deoxyglucose (2DG). glucose analog competes with transport across blood–brain barrier exokinase-catalyzed phosphorylation. Since its introduction, several employed 2DG technique to map consequences noxious painful states along polysynaptic pathways CNS. Immediate-early gene (IEG) offers cellular resolution compatability other neuroanatomical techniques. has proven useful characterizing projection targets stained cells. identification spatial temporal aspects cascade genetic events triggered stimuli help understanding pathophysiology prolonged pain states.
