Making the best of it: Themes of meaning among informal caregivers to the elderly

摘要: Abstract Interviews with 48 informal caregivers to the elderly indicate that concept of caregiver meaning can help explain why many persevere in their roles despite stress involved. Several general themes were found: Gratification and Satisfaction caregiving role, a sense Family Responsibility/Reciprocity, Friendship Company which provided, commitment Doing What Needs Be Done. Less frequently utilized were: having Caring Personality, experiencing Personal Growth an Improved Relationship elder. These echo complexity reported literature date, two related interpretations are posited: has both emotional cognitive component, there different dynamics operating—searching for finding meaning.
