Exploring the Importance of Identity Following Acquired Brain Injury: A Review of the Literature

摘要: Life following acquired brain injury (ABI) for survivors and their families is often accompanied by experiences of tremendous physical emotional difficulties. Upon returning home from in-patient rehabilitation, many struggle to maintain intimate relationships, come terms with injuries, ultimately build satisfying lives. Addressing the loss reconstruction identity emerging as a crucial component rehabilitation injury. This paper reviews literature surrounding these phenomena social neuropsychology, cognitivepsychological, psychosocial perspective. In doing so, epistemological tensions between perspectives are uncovered examined. Finally, summary post-hospitalization strategies addressing (re)construction both ABI provided.
