摘要: Abstract The feasibility of applying optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) techniques to obtain estimates the burial age lithic clasts in form pebbles quartzose lithology is investigated this study. We applied OSL measurement procedures vein-quartz and quartzite from contexts at five sites with fluvial coastal beach depositional ranging 500 ka mid Holocene. As previous studies lithics, measured depth-dose profiles were interpreted identify regions associated key stages history pebbles, including extent pre-burial optical resetting, primary any subsequent secondary exposure sunlight. While some had not been fully reset before burial, none field saturation, as commonly encountered larger such cobbles. relatively low concentrations radionuclides within simplified assessment radiation dose rate. consistent independent dating evidence obtained for three sampled UK (Langford Quarry, Leet Hill Swanscombe Skull Site Barnfield Pit) one two tested Portugal (Forte Cao), whereas bleaching detected a second site (Vale de Atela) underestimated burial. oldest was ~500 (Leet Quarry), there capacity extend potential range further equivalence limiting value De excess 1 Ma. advantages working smaller, portable, higher transparency opens up wide applications, whether processes are environmental or anthropogenic origin modification.
