Some remarks on carrot breeding (Daucus carota sativus Hoffm.)

摘要: Carrot breeding in the past 150 years has resulted varieties with high yield, a short growing period, and excellent root colour. Recently, hybrid have demonstrated good uniformity of roots, quality accepted by most consumers. By contrast, only few resistant (mainly open-pollinated varieties) are offered seed companies, being to Alternaria. Hybrid offers chance combining different sources resistance. Efforts future should concentrate on improvement health development genotypes suitable for cultivation suboptimal climates regions, as well special applications.
