摘要: High freshwater inputs into Scottish sea lochs (fjords) combined with the restricted exchange between loch basin water and coastal Atlantic masses are likely to result in reduced regional marine radiocarbon reservoir ages (R(t)) these environments. To test this hypothesis, historical, museum-archived shells, collected live on known dates prior AD 1950 from locations NW Scotland, were 14C dated provide a means of determining R(t) hence deviation (∆R) modeled global surface ocean age (R). The data, when west coast (Harkness 1983), yield ∆R value -26 ± 14 yr. (fjordic) waters Scotland statistically different (at confidence level >95%) 17 yr reported for UK (Reimer 2005; data after Harkness 1983) good agreement -33 93 by Reimer et al. (2002). Therefore, it is recommended that correction should be applied modern (i.e. pre-bomb but not prehistoric) Scotland.
