摘要: The Jesuit House was built in 1730 on land reclaimed from the Tinago Marsh at edge of early Spanish settlement Cebu City, Philippines, two centuries after it first encountered by explorer Magellan. As city expanded its core areas ca. 1565 around Fort San Pedro, Plaza Independencia, and sites Santo Nino Church Cathedral, waterways were drained filled, canals dredged to extend urban grid. Archaeological excavations nearby Casa Gorordo Annex project document these changes landscape. Soil profiles throughout downtown coastal plain conjunction with chronostratigraphic data demonstrate submergence during late Holocene high sea still-stand, followed dissection local drainages Guadalupe River. Relict channels distinct interfluvial terraces are observed showing a migrating series along shoreline as well escarpment back that marked limits marine intrusion still-stand.
