摘要: Individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) often acquire chronic lung infections that lead to irreversible damage. We sought examine regional variation in the microbial communities lungs of individuals mild-to-moderate CF disease, relationship between local microbiota and damage, determine relationships samples taken directly from spontaneously expectorated sputum. In this initial study, nine stable, adult patients an FEV1>50% underwent sampling different lobes right by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) protected brush (PB) mucus plugs. Sputum were obtained six subjects immediately prior procedure. Microbial community analysis was performed on DNA extracted these extent damage each lobe quantified a recent CT scan. The observed regions did not correlate specific genera, levels diversity or composition, bacterial genome copies per ml BAL fluid. all subjects, fluid contained similar communities. eight out PB also same lobe. more diverse than those samples, suggesting enrichment some taxa To our knowledge, study is first clinically stable CF-related disease.
