摘要: This thesis examines different methods of communicating volcanic hazards to the population Flagstaff, Arizona using results a recent lava flow hazard assessment nearby San Francisco Volcanic Field (SFVF). Harburger (2014) determined that given originating in SFVF, there is statistical probability it will inundate city Flagstaff or even originate from vent within limits. Based on recurrence rates for most eruptions (3 x 10-4/year), inundation 1.1 10-5 per year. This study considers effects three communication participants’ perceived risk. The were administered through questionnaire and included statement year, over 100 year period, an interactive map derived assessment. Each method was followed by questions gauging level concern. Questionnaires 213 residents two week period February 2015. Results showed levels concern, rated 1 (not concerned) 5 (very concerned), varied based each communication. with greatest effect risk simulated map, while first one odds resulted statistically lower mean rating It suggested best way change when includes combination comprehensible visual aids. Further studies could also include visualization entire eruption scenario, including time scales other hazards, which may have more concern than simplified flows.
