On the Application of R -Curves and Maximum Load Toughness to Structures

摘要: An approximate procedure is presented which allows a ductile fracture analysis to be performed with single toughness value measured at maximum load in small-scale test. This used predict an R-curve then stress and crack extension. Predictions from this approach are compared experimental data 20 wide-plate specimens made various materials. A limited number of these also analyzed using R-curves order investigate the effect assumed shape on predictions. In addition, one determine critical tearing modulus required for structure exhibit collapse controlled failure. Potential applications analyses discussed.
