摘要: High-resolution insight into parasitic infections and diet of past populations in Northern Europe the Middle East (500 BC- 1700 AD) was obtained by pre-concentration parasite eggs from ancient latrines deposits followed shotgun sequencing DNA. Complementary profiling parasite, vertebrate plant DNA proved highly informative study health, human-animal interactions as well animal dietary components. Most prominent were finding soil-borne parasites transmitted directly between humans, but also meat-borne that require consumption raw or undercooked fish pork. The detection for which sheep, horse, dog, pig, rodents serves definitive hosts are clear markers domestic synanthropic animals living closer proximity respective sites. Finally, reconstruction full mitochondrial genomes whipworm (Ascaris lumbricoides) roundworm species (Trichuris trichiura Trichuris muris) estimates haplotype frequencies elucidates genetic diversity provides insights epidemiology biology.
