摘要: Study objective Little is known about the transient and sustained operational effects of electronic health records on emergency department (ED) performance. We quantify how implementation a comprehensive record was associated with metrics performance, test ordering, medication administration at single-center ED. Methods performed longitudinal analysis data from single, suburban, academic ED during 28 weeks between May 2011 November 2011. assessed length stay, use diagnostic testing, administration, radiologic imaging, patient satisfaction 4-week baseline measurement period then tracked changes in these variables 24 after record. Results Median stay increased reduced transiently, returning to 4 8 weeks. Rates laboratory overall radiographs, computed tomography scans, ECG ordering all showed increases throughout implementation. Conclusion Electronic this study both as well ordering. Understanding ways which an can be affected by critical providing insight mitigate disruption maximize potential benefits technology.
