摘要: The fermentation of cellulose by a rumen anaerobic fungus in the presence Methanobrevibacter sp. strain RA1 and Methanosarcina barkeri 227 resulted formation 2 mol each methane carbon dioxide per hexose fermented. Coculture with either or M. produced 0.6 1.3 hexose, respectively. Acetate, formate, ethanol, hydrogen, lactate, which are major end products alone, were absent present very low quantities at triculture (=0.08 fermented). During time course triculture, hydrogen was not detected (<1 x 10 atm; <0.001 kPa) only acetate exhibited transitory accumulation; maximum equivalent to 1.4 6 days higher than total yield 0.73 monoculture. effect methanogens is interpreted as shift flow electrons away from electron sink lactate ethanol via favoring an increase acetate, turn converted barkeri. rate degradation (3 mg/ml day) faster previously reported for bacterial cocultures within 16 complete. used successfully also production plant fibrous materials, sisal (fiber leaves Agave sisalona L.) barley straw leaf.
