摘要: Kangaroos were censused form the air in 1978, and again 1979, within pastoral zone of South Australia, an area 242,000 km2, three a half times size Tasmania. Logistical problems minimal despite remoteness much area, but more then time was spent flying to between transects. Red kangaroos occurred throughout at mean density 4.62km-2. Western grey averaged 1.22 km-2 over whole restricted its southern half. Although sampled low intensity 1.3% estimates reasonably precise, that for red having coefficient variation 7% each survey, Mgrey kangaroos, 13%. Estimated numbers did not differ significantly years. Maps distribution are given species. The cost such survey is around 6c per km2 1% sampling intensity.
