摘要: Defensins comprise a family of cationic antimicrobial peptides that are characterized by the presence six conserved cysteine residues. We identified two novel human β-defensin (hBD) isoforms mining public genomic sequences. The predicted conserve six-cysteine motif identical with hBD-4, termed hBD-5 and hBD-6. also evaluated characteristics mouse homologs hBD-5, hBD-6, HE2β1, (mBD)-12, mBD-11, EP2e (mEP2e). mBD-12 synthetic peptide showed salt-dependent activity. demonstrate epididymis-specific expression pattern mBD-12, mEP2e. In situ hybridization revealed mEP2e in columnar epithelium caput epididymis, contrasting predominant mBD-3 capsule or septum whole epididymis. addition, regional specificity was somewhat overlapping, but not identical, suggesting specific regulation may work for each member family. Our findings indicated multiple specifically cooperatively contribute to innate immunity urogenital system.
