摘要: NLRS is a joint Canadian/Norwegian study of the pace and extent recovery lake ecosystems from acidification. Twenty-one oligotrophic lakes within Killarney Park, Ontario were selected as principal Canadian sites for this study. objectives included: testing new biomonitoring techniques, assessment multiple stressor effects on recovery, development biological endpoints critical load modelling. Sampling phytobenthos, phytoplankton, pelagic zooplankton, littoral sublittoral chironomids, fish, well sediment cores paleolimnological pre-industrial biotic communities. Strong statistical models developed relating composition to water quality variables. Prediction future will require additional understanding differential colonization rates, climate variability, impact unique events such arrival an exotic species. Recovery proved be best measured against modern reference data circumneutral rather than historic acidified systems.
