摘要: Large breeding populations of California sea lions (Zalophus californianus) are located on San Miguel and Nicolas Islands in the Southern Bight. In 2001, there was a substantial increase pup mortality late summer fall. From June 2002 to January 2003, 208 freshly dead pups were examined Island, most western Channel off coast southern California. Tissues from 186 these histologically. The primary lesions 133 (72%) an enteritis associated with hookworms infections major organs. Emaciation/starvation 43 (26%) second important cause death.
