摘要: [1] In most thermally stratified lakes, the summer thermocline has shape of a “dome”, with shallower depth offshore than nearshore. This configuration is accompanied by lake-wide cyclonic circulation. Lake-wide observations subsurface temperature in central Lake Erie revealed an atypical “depressed” or “bowl-shaped” late summer, deeper middle lake and Currents measured basin when bowl-shaped was observed were anticyclonic, forming single basin-wide gyre. It suggested that unusual result Ekman pumping driven anticyclonic vorticity surface winds. The can lead to greater hypoxia bottom waters negative effects on biota reducing hypolimnetic volume.
