The use of the Minnaert correction for land‐cover classification in mountainous terrain

摘要: Land‐cover classifications in mountainous terrain are often hampered by the topographic effect. Several strategies can be pursued to correct for this. A traditional approach is use training areas same land‐cover class different positions and later merge those into one class. Other solutions involve corrections, such as a Minnaert correction. In this study classification result of training‐area was compared with Minnaert‐corrected image. order derive constants, SPOT XS scene Santa Monica Mountains, USA, divided three visually relatively homogeneous regions. Eighty per cent pixels were assigned land cover both classifications. Differences mainly section image that had more diverse than chaparral‐covered eastern section.
