摘要: Background: Aging is an inevitable process for all living organisms. During this reactive oxygen species generation increased which leads to the activation of hyaluronidase, collagenase and elastase, can further contribute skin aging. Four southern African medicinal plants; Clerodendrum glabrum, Schotia brachypetala, Psychotria capensis Peltophorum africanum, were investigated assess their anti-aging properties. Methods: Anti-elastase, anti-collagenase anti-hyaluronidase activities twenty-eight samples, consisting methanol ethyl acetate extracts four plants, determined using spectrophotometric methods. Radical scavenging activity was by ability plant scavenge ABTS + radical. Results: The majority samples in anti-elastase assay nine showed more than 80% inhibition. extract S. brachypetala bark leaves P. inhibited elastase 90%. contained highest (75.13 ± 7.49%) whilst africanum exhibited antioxidant (IC50: 1.99 0.23 μg/ml). Conclusion: free radical enzyme inhibitory suggests that they help restore elasticity thereby slow wrinkling process. with most promising will be subjected testing isolation active compound/s.
