摘要: (Dated: June 4, 2013)We demonstrate the potential of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFEL) to advancethe understandingof complex plasma dynamics by allowing for first time nanometer and femtosecond resolutionat same in diagnostics. Plasma phenomena on such short timescales are highrelevance many fields physics, particular ultra-intense ultra-short laser interactionwith matter. Highly relevant yet only partially understood may become directly acces-sible experiment. These include relativistic absorption at solid targets, creation energeticelectrons electron transport warm dense matter, including seeding development ofsurface beam instabilities, ambipolar expansion, shock formation, surfacesor buried layers. We potentials XFEL probing high power matter interactionsusing exemplary small angle scattering technique, focusing general considerations forXFEL probing.
