摘要: Aims Emergency Departments (EDs) worldwide are facing a crisis from overcrowding--a common perception exists that inappropriate use of the ED is major contributing factor. This study aims to examine concept 'inappropriate' attendances in relation Department at New Zealand's Christchurch Hospital. It specifically seeks determine whether there consensus opinion among healthcare providers regarding definition 'inappropriate'. Methods An exploratory survey health professionals involved with referral, assessment, transport, and treatment patients was carried out. A range professionals, including ambulance personnel, general practitioners, emergency department physicians, nurses, hospital managers were approached. series questions relating response asked, an additional open-ended question 'appropriateness'.
