摘要: The ductus arteriosus is one of several shunts in the cardiovascular system. It a small vessel connecting aortic arch and pulmonary artery that allows blood to bypass circulation. open during foetal development because lungs cannot function oxygenation occurs by exchange with maternal placenta. Normally it closes few days after birth; however, number people closure does not occur, leading condition known as patent arteriosus. In this paper our aim investigate resulting effects. We develop mathematical model haemodynamics three different idealised geometries assuming entry flow irrotational remains so core until at least shunt position. argue separation or diffusion vorticity into delayed due high frequency associated pulsatile component profile. analysis uses complex potential theory, Schwarz–Christoffel transformations, conformal mappings Fourier series. main results are based on assumption patients similar healthy adults, we apply using boundary conditions representative physiological values adults. suggests pressures aorta likely equalise, shear stress increases near edges backflow large volumes may occur from towards ventricles presence shunt. Our strongly suggest an abnormal compensatory physiology develops
