Eighty-two women presenting in labor were randomized 'verbal' 'verbal plus written' for epidural analgesia contacted 5 7 months after pre-anesthetic interview. Ten objective questions posed at time that addressed issues 'true risks', 'false 'situational' related process. These responses scored on point scale so maximal score 100 points possible. Median 80 (70-90) group 90 (80-100) group. difference statistically significant (P< 0.01). In addition, three subjective asked all time. All but six (one five patients) expressed would help them 'remember appreciate different anesthetic options, risks, procedures'. Four these same thought process 'alarming'. Two (both reported they felt unable give informed consent.
