摘要: A plant-microbe bioassay was devised to test agricultural chemicals for mutagenic activity under conditions that are normally encountered in the environment. Maize plants, homallelic waxy mutation [wx/wx], were grown field isolation plots and each plot sprayed with a known concentration of given chemical. Additional plants greenhouse treated like manner. Plants harvested at various stages development, tissues homogenized, filtered, centrifuged 1,000 g give soluble fraction which tested Salmonella typhimurium Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Controls consisted extracts from untreated plants. This system offers distinct advantages because mutagenicity any plant-mediated metabolite can be detected, genetic effect chemical itself maize plant by back reversion analysis wx locus. Positive data obtained on several chemicals, particular, members s-triazine herbicides, nonmutagenic classical Salmonella/mammalian microsome assay. Further, tissue found capable activiting well-documented promutagens, including aflatoxin B1.
