摘要: Papaya, a fruit crop cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions, is known for its nutritional benefits medicinal applications. Here we report 3x draft genome sequence of 'SunUp' papaya, the first commercial virus-resistant transgenic tree to be sequenced. The papaya three times size Arabidopsis genome, but contains fewer genes, including significantly disease-resistance gene analogues. Comparison five sequenced genomes suggests minimal angiosperm set 13,311. A lack recent duplication, atypical other so far, may account smaller number most functional groups. Nonetheless, striking amplifications within particular groups suggest roles evolution tree-like habit, deposition remobilization starch reserves, attraction seed dispersal agents, adaptation daylengths. Transgenesis at locations closely associated with chloroplast insertions into nuclear topoisomerase I recognition sites. Papaya offers numerous advantages as system fruit-tree genomics, this provides foundation revealing basis Carica's distinguishing morpho-physiological, properties.
