摘要: New diagnostic tools are needed for the characterization of dental caries in early stages development. If carious lesions detected enough, they can be arrested without need surgical intervention. The objective this study was to demonstrate that polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) used imaging and monitoring lesion progression over time. High-resolution resolved images were acquired natural simulated varying severity created time periods 1 14 days. Linearly polarized light incident on tooth samples reflected intensity both orthogonal polarizations measured. PS-OCT invaluable removing confounding influence surface reflections native birefringence necessary enhanced resolution structure lesions. This demonstrated is well suited interproximal occlusal caries, root decay under composite fillings. Longitudinal measurements state from area linearly correlated with square demineralization indicating changes enamel mineralization
