Phylogeny and Taxonomy of the Neotropical Thepytus (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae, Theclinae)

摘要: The Neotropical lycaenid hairstreak genus Thepytus Robbins and its eight species are revised. Species treatments summarize nomenclature, distribution, habitat, behavior, diagnostic traits, as well noting why each is considered distinct under a biological concept. An identifi cation key for males checklist included. Beatheclus Balint & Dahners new synonym synonymized with Thepytus, beatrizae (Balint Dahners) combination. Other nomenclatural actions include the description of jennifer Busby species, nancyana carmen Duarte species. A lectotype designated Thecla thyrea Hewitson, 1867, to ensure stability this name. phylogenetic analysis based on 22 coded morphological characters yields one equal weight most parsimonious 39-step tree. Implied weighting does not change tree topology. Unambiguous changes in elevation optimized cladogram show that montane lineage colonized lowlands at least instance. use T. echelta (Hewitson) control agent Psittacanthus (Loranthaceae) discussed.
