摘要: A polyethylene process for the improved encapsulation of radioactive, hazardous, and mixed wastes have been developed at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Improvements in waste loading form performance demonstrated through bench-scale development testing. Maximum loadings up to 70 dry wt % nitrate salt were achieved, compared with 13--20 using conventional cement processes. Stability under anticipated storage disposal conditions compliance applicable hazardous regulations a series lab-scale tests. Full-scale demonstration this actual or surrogate is currently planned. scale-up feasibility test was successfully conducted, demonstrating ability salts production rates (up 450 kg/hr) close agreement between bench- full-scale parameters. Cored samples from resulting pilot-scale (114 liter) used verify homogeneity provide additional specimens confirmatory
