40T Soft X-ray Spectroscopies on Magnetic-Field-Induced Valence Transition in Eu(Rh1-xIrx)2Si2 (x=0.3)

摘要: A magnetic-field-induced valence transition of Eu(Rh1−xIrx)2Si2 (x = 0.3) has been examined using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements up to 39.3 T. At 9 K, the Eu number takes a value 2.65 (±0.03) at 0 T decreases abruptly 2.33 around 22 Above field, magnetization Eu2+ component saturates, although Van Vleck paramagnetism Eu3+ linearly increases reaches 0.65 μB/Eu3+ 39 The determined by XAS saturation bulk are mutually consistent. It is found that field XMCD differs from magnetization. To interpret discrepancy, we discuss sample inhomogeneity effect surface state.
