Measuring mindfulness and examining its relationship with alcohol use and negative consequences.

摘要: Mindfulness has been proposed as a useful adjunct to alcohol abuse treatment. However, very little research examined the basic relationship between use and mindfulness. Inconsistency in definition measurement of mindfulness across studies makes such difficult interpret conduct. Therefore, current sought validate an emerging measure, Five Facet Questionnaire (FFMQ), examine its with alcohol-related negative consequences among sample 316 college-aged adults. The purported factor structure FFMQ was using confirmatory analysis. Structural equation modeling used relations mindfulness, use, consequences. Consistent past research, results supported five-factor FFMQ. analyses revealed that two awareness-based factors were negatively related use. After controlling for one acceptance-based (nonjudging thoughts feelings) consequences, positively (all ps < .05). Effect sizes small-medium. reported here inform burgeoning development mindfulness-based addiction treatment provide additional psychometric validation
