摘要: Ensuring patient access to genomic information in the face of increasing demand requires clinicians develop innovative ways working. This paper presents first empirical prospective observational cohort study UK multi-disciplinary genetic service delivery. It describes and explores collaborative working practices including utilisation role clinical geneticists non-medical counsellors. Six hundred fifty new patients referred a regional genetics were tracked through 850 contacts until discharge. Referral decisions regarding allocation lead health professional assigned case monitored, use initial contact guidelines. Significant differences found cases led by counsellors those geneticists. Around sixth, 16.8% (109/650) referrals dealt with letter back referrer or re-directed another provider 14.8% (80/541) remaining chose not schedule an appointment. Of 461 patients, allocated as for 46.2% (213/461). A further 61 did attend. who did, 86.3% (345/400) discharged after one two appointments. Genetic contributed 95% (784/825) total contacts. They provided 93.7% (395/432) 26.8% (106/395) at that point. The from this informed planned re-design. More research is needed assess effectiveness efficiency different models within services.
