摘要: SUGARCANE smut has continued to spread through infested districts and previously unaffected regions in Queensland. Epidemiology studies were initiated late 2006 the Bundaberg-Childers region similar work was also undertaken two other affected production areas (Herbert Mackay) from end of 2007. Research focussed on assessing how quickly disease spreading disease-free farms within escalated susceptible crops. Disease assessed by regular inspections while escalation crops monitoring diseased stool populations these Local industry data newly-infested provided additional information spread. Analyses showed that likely infest all a district three years after first finding. The research predicted Herbert would be October 2008, Mackay February 2009 April 2009. Smut varied considerably; some cases 5% infested-stools plough-out threshold reached 12 months stools found, this took 2–3 years. Broad ruleof-thumb recommendations can now made farmers Queensland areas.
