摘要: Background We report our initial experience with acupuncture treatment at the Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital's Acupuncture Research Clinic. Patients One thousand one hundred and twenty-eight patients received a total of 12,172 sessions during period between September 1995 December 1996. The majority were Chinese (94%), 40-70 years (70%) either dialect or Mandarin (68%) as main spoken language. However, third English speaking, educational level did not seem to be factor among accepting treatment. Most had painful conditions (58%) stroke-related dysfunction (23%). Amongst conditions, arthritis (25%), low back pain (22%) other musculo-skeletal (12%) most common. Results Prior treatment, about three-quarter believed would benefit them while 40% tried before. After completion 70% all considered safe, 54% satisfied overall result, 51% felt was beneficial, recommend others similar conditions. In subgroup treated for > 90% reported improvement. Near-syncope occurred in 2 (0.18%) (0.02%). There no acupuncture-related complication. Conclusion Our preliminary showed that is appears beneficial An overview presented, issues safety, efficacy need conduct randomised controlled clinical trials are discussed.
