摘要: This squib reexamines the evidence for Blust's reconstruction of *kandoRa 'cuscus' and *mans(aə)r 'bandicoot' to ancestor putative Central-Eastern Malayo-Polynesian subgroup Austronesian family. I argue that reconstructions are problematic, being unable account distribution semantics reflexes in languages eastern Indonesia. Examining data from Papuan this region, consider alternative histories marsupial terms involving independent innovations, semantic shifts, diffusion.
