摘要: In 2009, with the passage of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical (HITECH), federal government authorized twenty-one billion dollars to launch Meaningful Use program. The goal was encourage healthcare providers use electronic health record systems, thereby facilitate information sharing among providers, patients, clinical data registries. program succeeded in promoting adoption systems - at considerable cost mixed results. April 2015, Medicare Access CHIP Reauthorization 2015 (MACRA) signed into law by President Obama. Under provisions MACRA, reimbursements care will be based on demonstrable improvements patient outcomes reduced costs, not per se. Centers Medicaid Services recently announced end 2016 supplanted other initiatives, such as Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model. Organizations are composed doctors, hospitals, suppliers that voluntarily collaborate offer coordinated, quality lower patients. This paper discusses impacts why meeting its goals presents formidable challenges. To comply Use, must a certified EHR system. However, certification process omits many key considerations critical operational success, does suffice evidence system is suitable particular setting. Innovative, holistic solutions needed improve interoperability, usability, support Insurance Portability Accountability (HIPAA) compliance.
