摘要: Abstract This study aimed at investigating the chemical composition and in vitro antimicrobial activity of juniper (Juniperus communis L.) berries essential oils (EOs), including commercial samples as well oil hydrodistilled from grown Portugal, for which few information is available literature. The analysis was performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry detection (GC/MS) allowing identification a total 97 compounds. EOs showed different profiles with only one being according European Pharmacopoeia 8 requirements. laboratory-hydrodistilled EO characterized its high content α-pinene (41.6%), followed β-pinene (27.6%) limonene (6.4%), EO1 (31.1%), β-myrcene (16.3%) sabinene (7.5%) EO2 δ-cadinene (16.0%), (12.2%) (9.4%). distinct were also evidenced principal components (PCA), clear separation evaluated EOs. One samples, presence propachlor, banned herbicide Union. All relevant they presented microbicidal against Candida albicans least six ten tested bacteria. Commercial higher biological activity, it active all microorganisms, could be related sesquiterpenes, particular those oxygenated. Overall, results support use Juniper L. an antiseptic traditional medicine highlight potential biopreservative that used industries.
